Ipswich City Council is a progressive Council committed to Getting to Zero, and working on the full range of G2Z community change strategies.
From October 2011, ICC has contracted AWLQ to care for all impounded animals in Ipswich to work on increasing rehoming and reducing euthanasia in Ipswich City. All unclaimed impounded animals will transfer to AWLQ for assessment for rehoming. In addition AWLQ will be directly accepting surrendered animals from their owners for rehoming.
Education services focussed on target groups to improve responsible ownership will also be managed by AWLQ working with Ipswich Council's Strategic Dept.
Ipswich ran a Stop Littering - Free Desexing campaign in 2010 utilising subsidised desexing rates of the AWLQ Community Vet Clinic in Ipswich.
ICC also contracts the AWLQ Community Clinic to provide the veterinary care for pound animals.
AWLQ will be providing desexing, microchipping, and health care services for all stray and surrendered animals being rehomed. This will ensure a greater number of desexed animal in the community to prevent unwanted cats and dogs. AWLQ will also be working with the community to raise awareness and involve local residents in volunteering, fostering and fundraising to help the Ipswich community's abandoned cats and dogs.
Ipswich City Council is to be commended for its concern for the animals in its community and commitment to a proactive approach to animal management.
