Who we are and what we do:

The Maneki Neko is a Japanese symbol of success, prosperity, good health and happiness. We hope that the Maneki Neko will bring all of these to our organisation and to the cats that we rescue, rehabilitate and rehome.

Our aims are to;

  • to provide for the health, welfare and wellbeing of all breeds of Animals.
  • to provide care for lost animals and for injured or mistreated animals that have no identifiable owner
  • to find permanent homes for the animals referred to above
  • to provide an opportunity for the community to participate in Animal welfare activities and enhance their health and wellbeing through volunteering.
  • to assist financial disadvantaged families or individuals to ensure the welfare of their companion Animals.
  • to encourage responsible pet ownership in the community and reduce animal overpopulation
  • to make available information about the care, protection and treatment of animals
  • to discourage cruelty to animals

G2Z Elements and Strategies:

  • increasing numbers of animals rehomed each year,
  • foster care program,
  • rehoming shelter animals
  • assistance with de-sexing (last litter program model).

Recent Achievements in Getting to Zero:

Maneki Neko Cat Rescue was established in October 2012. In our first 6 months of operation we have established our foster care and adoption process’s, established section 87Y agreements with 2 councils in Victoria, and re-homed 52 cats/kittens.

Support Needed:

  • funding to implement broader subsidies for de-sexing,
  • additional community volunteers e.g. foster carers, fundraisers, marketeers
  • funding to purchase equipment e.g. laptop, camera
  • funding to establish food bank program to reduce surrender rates
