The Animal Welfare League of Qld (AWLQ) is a leading animal shelter organisation working at local, state and national levels to end the killing of healthy and treatable cats and dogs in pounds and shelters.
AWLQ takes care of approximately 10,000 stray and surrendered animals annually from South East Queensland, and has achieved the lowest euthanasia rate for a large city of half a million people or more in Australia. 92% of dogs and 86% of cats were either reclaimed or rehomed in Gold Coast City in 20018/19. National programs include the National Desexing Network and G2Z.
AWLQ receives no Government funding for their proactive welfare work, relying on individuals, businesses, and organisations for funding support. AWL prides itself on using all donations and bequests for facilities and proactive programs to prevent unwanted cats and dogs, and to increase rehoming around Australia. Substantial funds are needed for this purpose.
